Their beautiful leaves and flowers are a nice ornament but what is most interesting is the leaves right after sprouting as they are edible and particularly delicious.<\/p>\n<p>In Kanto area the season is much past for that and I don&#8217;t recall seeing any at the farmers market, and we don&#8217;t have any (yet) in our garden, however our friend K. in the Niigata mountains has plenty in her garden, so we left her with a huge bundle of freshly cut leaves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513.jpg\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3638\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513.jpg 1500w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-1400x1400.jpg 1400w, http:\/\/gentianeetantoine.com\/igk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/img_9513-600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After removing corollas and washing the leaves carefully they are ready to be prepared.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite way of eating them to enjoy their fresh and crispy texture is to simply cut them in 4cm parts and cook them first in a little of olive oil while stirring, then add a bit of water and a few pink peppercorn and stop cooking when they are a vibrant green.
